Dear Dariush:

You've been on my mind...

You've been singing since the year I was born and I've listened to your voice since I was a child. I love your voice, your music, your lyrics, each heartwarming on its own and, when combined, extraordinarily beautiful.

I had the honor and pleasure of meeting you in person in Paris about fifteen years ago. You were sitting in a café with a young man, talking about work, and I was passing by with two friends who asked for your autograph. I wanted it, too, probably more than them, but I was embarrassed because my friends had interrupted your conversation, so I stood a few feet away and watched as you kindly signed their names.

Thank you for being a wonderful human being. You have touched millions of lives with your passion to make this world a better place. Thank you for being a messenger of compassion. I appreciate everything you do, from your music to your tree-planting campaign to your Education, Awareness & Prevention organization. Thank you for being a humanitarian. I am so very grateful for you.

Dear Steve: You've been on my mind... I met you in 2019 when you tweeted about your book, The End of Fear Itself . At the time, I was writing a piece on fear myself, so I was reading everything I could find on the topic. Naturally, I got your book and read it. I reached out to you to see if we could meet online and talk about your book. Thank you for agreeing to meet with me. What I saw in you during that talk was the extremely rare – and priceless – combination of critical thinking, honesty, and humility, each of which is both valuable and very hard to find. I haven't had the opportunity to meet you in real life, but I'm so honored and proud to have you as my friend and my writing buddy.
