You've been on my mind...

I met you over seven years ago in my morning class. You were always full of energy and funny, and you always said what was on your mind. You were often the first student to arrive, and I always looked forward to seeing you and your smile early in the morning.

Thanks for the many cups of yogurt and all the bananas you brought me, and thanks for all the funny stories.

I'm grateful to have met you as well as your loving family, and I'm honored to call you my friend. Thank you for being a beautiful person.

At the time, I was writing a piece on fear myself, so I was reading everything I could find on the topic. Naturally, I got your book and read it. I reached out to you to see if we could meet online and talk about your book. Thank you for agreeing to meet with me. What I saw in you during that talk was the extremely rare – and priceless – combination of critical thinking, honesty, and humility, each of which is both valuable and very hard to find.
