Gratitude Girl

Running through the airport with one hand holding my beltless pants and the other being pulled by my dad is one of my oldest memories. I was four and on my way to see the world. I've traveled quite a bit since then and become familiar with many cultures, each of which has left an impact on me. Teaching ESL has allowed me to meet people from various backgrounds as well. I've adopted some customs and ignored others. I am who I am because of what I've seen and whom I've met – and I'm grateful.

I love your voice, your music, your lyrics, each heartwarming on its own and, when combined, extraordinarily beautiful. I had the honor and pleasure of meeting you in person in Paris about fifteen years ago. You were sitting in a café with a young man, talking about work, and I was passing by with two friends who asked for your autograph. I used your "Lady in Red" and "Spanish Train" to practice my own integrated language skills - listening & writing - when I was a teenager living in Iran, more than three decades ago.
